Determination of the packing model of a supramolecular nanofiber via mass-per-length measurement and de novo simulation

Herein, we report an example of using scanning transmission electron microscopy to determine the mass-per-length of supramolecular nanofibers. Together with the measurement of the diameter of nanofibers via transmission electron microscopy, we could estimate the packing density of assembling molecules along the nanofibers. A parallel unbiased de novo simulation screens…

Size-Selective Adsorption in Nanoporous Polymers from Coumarin Photo-Cross-Linked Columnar Liquid Crystals

Concellón, Alberto; Schenning, Albertus P. H. J.; Romero, Pilar; Marcos, Mercedes; Serrano, José Luis

We have prepared nanoporous polymers from columnar hexagonal hydrogen-bonded complexes, whose order is fixed by coumarin photoinduced cycloaddition (photodimerization). Two different hydrogen-bonded complexes were used and consisted of a melamine (M) or tris(triazolyl)triazine (T) derivative acting as central templates and three peripheral carboxylic acids containing coumarin units. These…

Structural transformation from shish-kebab crystals to micro-fibrils through hot stretching process of gel-spun ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibers with high concentration solution

An, Minfang; Lv, You; Yao, Guibin; Zhang, Li; Wang, Zongbao

Structural evolution of gel-spun ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibers with high concentration solution via hot stretching process was investigated by in situ small-angle X-ray scattering, in situ wide-angle X-ray diffraction measurements, scanning electron microscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. With the increase of stretching strain, the long period continuously increases…

Thermomechanical and Conductive Properties of Thiol–Ene Poly(ionic liquid) Networks Containing Backbone and Pendant Imidazolium Groups

Bratton, Abigail F.; Kim, Sung-Soo; Ellison, Christopher J.; Miller, Kevin M.

A series of covalently cross-linked poly(ionic liquid) networks were prepared using thiol–ene “click” photopolymerization. In these networks, imidazolium groups are placed in the backbone and pendant to the main chain, creating a “hybrid”-type network architecture. The pendant imidazolium groups were incorporated into the networks from monofunctional “ene” monomers that contained…
